NAMI Charleston Area - Membership

NAMI Charleston Area is a nonprofit, grass-roots organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and treatment for people who suffer from brain disorders, as well as their families and friends through support, advocacy and education.

We are about people working together to enable each individual with a brain disorder to live the best life possible. We are part of a 1,200 affiliate national network of more than 220,000 members. NAMI South Carolina consists of 17 local affiliates and 1,000 members.

When we go to the Department of Mental Health, the Legislature, the local Mental Health Centers, when we work to end stigma and discrimination, we need to say, "We represent legions of families across South Carolina. There are hundreds and hundreds of families that support our principles, our activities and our advocacy for change!"

We are asking you to count for us, to let us number you among our supporters. Being a member does not mean you have to "come out" if you are not ready (although we hope that someday you will). It does not mean you have to participate actively (although we certainly hope you can and will). Membership in NAMI Charleston Area basically means that you care about what we are doing and that you believe in our vision for a better world for people suffering from mental illness and their families.

Annual membership in NAMI Charleston Area costs $30. This gives you the quarterly National NAMI Newsletter, notifications of all our NAMI Charleston Area meetings and programs and a right to vote at our annual meeting. Your dues also support our monthly Newsletter, sent to a large mailing list of concerned families, friends and mental health providers across the state. Additionally, you will gain advanced access to our website where, for example, you can research new medications, find local psychiatrists and a whole lot more.

If $30 is hard for you to swing, there is an Open-Door Membership for $3 or any amount you wish to contribute. Let us "count on you" so we can wield more power in the system and fight for better services.
